Electric Motor Testing

Malloy tests the electrical condition of the Winding Circuit(s) for Motors and Generators with our static Motor/Generator Analyzers. These electrical tests can be performed in our service centers or onsite at the customer’s facility.

We utilize the following Static Motor and Generator Analyzers:

  • Baker D12R (Capable of testing up to 12 kV)
  • Baker D12R with PP185D (Power Pack increases capability of testing up to 30 kV)
  • PdMA MCETM (Capable of testing up to 5 kV)

The Baker D12R presents the following tests:

  • Resistance (Phase to Phase)
  • Insulation Resistance (Phase to Ground)
  • DC HiPot (High Potential)
  • Set Voltage:
    • Up to 12 kV (D12R)
    • Up to 30 kV (PP185D)
    • Dielectric Absorption (D.A.)
      • Up to 12 kV (D12R)
      • Up to 30 kV (PP185D)
      • Polarization Index (P.I.)
        • Up to 12 kV (D12R)
        • Up to 30 kV (PP185D)
        • Surge (Phase to Phase) Testing
          • Up to 12 kV (D12R)
          • Up to 30 kV (PP185D)
          • Field Resistance
          • Field Resistance to Ground

The PdMA MCETM offers the following tests:

  • Resistance (Phase to Phase) with Unbalance Percentages
  • Inductance (Phase to Phase with Unbalance Percentages
  • Circuit Ground Capacitance
  • Insulation Resistance (Phase to Ground)
  • Dielectric Absorption (D.A.)
    • Up to 5 kV
    • Polarization Index (P.I.)
      • Up to 5 kV
      • Step Voltage (High Potential)
        • Up to 5 kV
        • Rotor Influence Check on Electrical Circuit
        • Field Inductance
        • Field Resistance
        • Field Resistance to Ground

Malloy can provide an Electronic (PDF) Copy of these results for the “As Found” and “As Left” conditions of the Electric Circuits. By testing the condition of Motor/Generator Circuits, we can help diagnose potential issues that could cause a failure during future operations and prevent it!
